Politics and education in Colombia: from the liberal regime to the National Front in the 20th century

Abstract

In the present work a concise analysis of government policies is carried out, the ideological differences of the liberal and conservative parties and their incidence in the way in which the educational system is being structured in three moments of the 20th century in Colombia: the liberal regime, the conservative governments and the military dictatorship and, finally, the period of the National Front. It was carried out within the framework of qualitative research through the documentary approach, which starts from the bibliographic search and the synthesis in files, to then generate the analysis of the variables in each historical moment through argumentative or expository texts. From the foregoing it was deduced, first, that there is a deep imbrication of these two political parties with the way in which education in Colombia is developing and transforming; Secondly, the intense influence of the Catholic religion in the ethical and normative framework of education was highlighted and, finally, the contradiction between the modernization of education and the maintenance of principles and values typical of the 18th and 19th centuries. , around processes generated from the interests of power at every moment of the political history of the 20th century in Colombia.
